Complaints around the head and jaw are very annoying. What many people don’t know is that mouth habits have to do with this. A mouth habit is everything you do with your mouth, such as biting your nails, chewing gum and clenching. This means that you do too much with your chewing muscles and can therefore maintain complaints.

How do you check if you are clenching?
Of course you can just check or feel if your molars touch each other or feel if your muscles have (a lot of) tension. There is another way: look into your mouth and see if there is a line / ridge. This line runs from the corner of your mouth to the back of your mouth, following the line of the teeth. Do you see this? Then you know for sure that you put the molars together too often.

Many people don’t realize they are clenching their teeth. While 30% of the people do this during the day. So it is good to pay attention to this! It is also good to pay attention to other oral behavior, as we mentioned earlier. The muscles of the jaw should ultimately only be used when you chew or talk. Therefore, stop putting pens in to your mouth or stop biting your lips. So pay attention, there is a big chance you will catch yourself in action.
